First Rain

19th Feb - first rains of 2021. Perfectly sunny skies suddenly turned grey around 5pm and delivered a 20 minute burst of rain. A follow-on spell of rain today afternoon - heavier, longer and much windier.

The pond filled itself to the brim today. The water lilies should be happy; the tiny fish, perhaps not so much, they are probably a little easier pickings for our neighbourhood pond heron (or is it a crane? egret?)

Caught a fair bit of rain water for the house as well. After being caught off guard by yesterday's first rain, managed to set up Haystack's RWH infrastructure (filter cleaning, rain barrels, flat floor buckets etc.) just in time to freeload on all the good stuff that fell from the sky.

Here's hoping for as good a rain year as 2020. (Last year, Haystack was fortunate enough to go 6.5 months without having to use municipal water supply.)
